Current service through T-Mobile's partnership is limited primarily to messaging and basic data.

## Analysts Remain Skeptical

Wall Street's reaction was measured. Shares of AT&T;, Verizon, and T-Mobile fell between 2 and 4 percent following the earnings call, but analysts questioned whether SpaceX can realistically compete on price and coverage without an MVNO agreement or significantly more spectrum.

Craig Moffett of MoffettNathanson told Reuters that building a competitive direct-to-consumer service "in the next five years" would be "extraordinarily challenging." The infrastructure costs alone are daunting. When an Evercore analyst asked whether becoming a true fourth carrier might require over $100 billion in capex, Shotwell said SpaceX "definitely intend[s] to build out the terrestrial component" but offered no dollar figures.

## Competition Is Heating Up

The service is live in 22 countries with over 400 million people having access. US Mobile announced in April that it would become the first MVNO to offer Starlink Mobile.

A standalone SpaceX carrier, if it materializes, would be a different proposition entirely. SpaceX has not disclosed pricing, launch timing, or service tiers for its direct consumer offering. Shotwell said the company has "great and new ideas" for building a mobile service but declined specifics.
